About Me

John Romanov is a Philadelphia/Southern New Jersey based artist and educator working in Ceramics. He holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Craft and Material Studies as well as a Master’s of Art in Teaching (Visual Arts + Design Education) from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

John is originally from the Central City area of Saint Petersburg, Russia. This has been a source of inspiration for his work as he is inspired by the rich history, beautiful architecture and cultural scene of the northern city. The central themes of his personal artwork focus on his cultural heritage and religious/spiritual background; the dichotomy of being Russian and Jewish has lead to the thorough exploration of this unique sub-culture which has taken on various manifestations through use of wheel thrown forms and other ceramic techniques.

John is internationally minded with a passion for exploring other cultures. As an educator he incorporates this passion when designing lessons and curriculum so as to expose students to the rich and vibrant cultures and encourage them to explore them in order to become inspired. Along with his passion for multiculturalism,  John believes that Art should be multi-disciplinary as well. Art should be used as a lens to view other academic subjects from a different angle. In addition, he also has studied museum education and has had hands on experience designing museum tours, educational programmes and curation.

John has pursued his passion for education by teaching art and related subjects in a variety of different settings. In addition to the thorough hands on teaching experience he gained during his teacher preparation program at the University of the Arts, he has over 10 years of experience working with school aged youth teaching art in a variety of summer programmes and extra curricular activities.

Currently, John is living in southern New Jersey, U.S.A and is actively seeking teaching opportunities. Due to his great love and passion for the United Kingdom, he is actively seeking opportunities in England and Scotland as he hopes to soon call the UK his home.
